Eucalyptus Essential Oil

As early as the 1880s, some surgeons used Eucalyptus oil during operations as an antiseptic and by the end of the century had become a mainstay in English hospitals to regularly clean catheters. Finally, in 1948 the United States officially registered Eucalyptus oil as an insecticide and miticide, effective against flying pests, mites, and ticks.

A diluted form of the oil can be taken orally for pain and inflammation of the respiratory tract mucous membranes. This helps relieve coughs, asthma, bronchitis with sinus pain and inflammation, and respiratory infections. Effective in healing mucus membranes, it can be used by diffusing or just inhaling its scent besides steam therapy or in a vaporizer or tub of hot water. A highly effective disinfectant, when diluted with a pure carrier oil it can be effectively applied to cuts and wounds and is highly antibacterial.

For pain relief, it has been found helpful when applied before strenuous workouts. Besides helping with muscle aches and pain, it is highly effective for dental health because of its antibacterial activity and internally stimulating immune system response. Now research also has found it highly stimulating to help eradicate exhaustion and mental sluggishness and can help lift the spirits of people on sickbeds.

It stimulates mental activity by increasing blood flow to the brain and can be extremely helpful when diffused in classrooms or at the desk of a student.

With all these uses, Eucalyptus oil is a great addition to any home seeking more natural forms of pain control and healing.
